The Lord Never Fumbles the Ball
Super Bowl 2026 is almost here, and it has been an interesting year, to say the least.
Many teams that usually make it to the playoffs didn’t. Several coaches were fired—deservingly so. And more than a few referee calls left fans questioning what they had just witnessed.
Watching your favorite team or player fumble the ball just before scoring a touchdown is utterly heartbreaking. Watching a kicker completely miss the football is downright embarrassing. I had many cringe-worthy, palm-to-the-face moments this season. As incredible as these professional athletes are, they are still human. They make mistakes.
Sometimes we forget how exhausted and stressed they become. They spend months traveling, pushing their bodies, and playing in extreme weather conditions. Even the best can stumble.
I’ve often found myself thinking about football as a reflection of how the Lord works in our lives. I picture myself as the ball. I imagine the Lord catching me and carrying me all the way down the field. He runs through linebackers with ease. He avoids every tackle. He keeps running—never dropping me—until we safely cross the goal line together. The crowd goes wild. We made it together and it was the perfect play.
I feel incredibly fortunate to serve a powerful God who can do anything through faith, trust, and prayer. Yet, even knowing this, we still find ourselves overwhelmed by anxiety and depression at times. We feel as though there is no hope.
But God’s timing is always perfect. He allows our faith to be tested. He watches how we respond to the challenges life throws our way. In our weakest moments, He wants to see whether we will surrender to Him or give in to temptation.
Today, I choose to surrender all my fears, worries, and anxieties to the Lord. I trust that He will catch me perfectly and carry me all the way to the finish line—never fumbling, never letting go.
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
— Exodus 14:14 (NIV)
