ONLY FOR A SEASON

The accuser is the ruler of this world. He is the father of lies, the tempter, the serpent, and the great dragon.

He waits silently for the perfect opportunity to make his move—always watching, but never striking until you give him an opening.

The last few weeks of my life have been H-E-double-hockey-sticks. I have been attacked in every which way possible.

My job.

My home.

My mind.

My health.

Anytime I am heavily involved in church, devoted to prayer, and trying to live a righteous life, the enemy makes his move.

He uses the worst parts of us:

Our temperament.

Our insecurities.

Our thoughts.

Our fears.

Some of you may have seen Stephen King’s movie IT—the evil clown that kidnaps children and kills whoever stands in its way.

The movie follows a group of seven children who are all haunted and tormented by the same clown. At first, no one talks about it. They suffer individually in silence, assuming they’re crazy. They think it’s all in their imaginations. Eventually, they become extremely depressed, scared, and anxious.

SPOILER ALERT: They discover they share a common enemy. They gather their strength, work together as a team, and ultimately destroy the evil that has been haunting them.

As Christians, we tend to suffer in silence. We’re often too afraid to share our most private struggles because of the fear of judgment.

Just recently, I opened up to a few fellow Christians whom I trust with all my heart and soul. It has made a world of difference to my mood.

I found out that it’s not just me. They are also struggling with sin, fear, anxiety, and depression. We carry shame and allow it to ruin us from the inside out.

How can we let the devil do that to us… AGAIN?

We’re Christians. We should know better, right?

We know his schemes, and yet we still sin out of anger or react poorly under tremendous stress.

We tell ourselves we’re going to stop cursing.

We’re going to stop road raging.

We’re going to stop fighting with a spouse or a coworker.

Yet time and time again, in our weakest moments, the devil sneaks in to destroy us mentally.

I don’t know about you, but it leaves me not only disappointed in myself, but it also causes a major shift in my devotion to the Lord.

I find myself praying less, allowing too much time to pass in between reading my Bible. Maybe I miss a church service that week.

All of these things seem innocent at first. We try to give ourselves a little grace because it’s been a hard week.

But we have to be careful not to allow Satan to pull us further and further away from God simply because we’re having a difficult time.

We are human. We do fall, but we have to get back up as soon as possible. Don’t allow the devil to take up too much of your space and time.

He enjoys us distracted.

If you’re a Christian and you’re going through one of the hardest seasons of your life right now, please have faith that it is only for a season.

Troubles come and go.  But the Love that God has for you will never go away.

The devil will flee from you in the name and authority of Jesus Christ.

Know the signs. Stay sober. Stay alert. Stand firm.

A PRAYER FOR YOU TODAY

“Heavenly Father, I submit my life, mind, and heart to Your authority.

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, I resist the devil and his schemes.

I command every spirit of doubt, fear, and temptation to flee from me right now.

You have no place or legal right in my life.

I stand firm on the truth of God’s Word and claim His victory. Amen.”

Revelation 1:18, the risen Jesus declares, “I am he who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.”
